About Our Worship
Our Liturgy
At Grace we worship using a liturgy, a pattern of hymns, prayers, readings from the Bible, and actions that help us connect with God. Some parts of the service change from week to week, while others stay the same or change seasonally. Liturgy literally means "the work of the people," which means that the congregation actively participates in worship, following patterns and prayers that date back, in some instances, to the earliest Christians.
Holy Eucharist
Nearly all Sunday services include the Eucharist or Holy Communion. Sometimes called the Lord’s Supper, Holy Eucharist is a sacrament in which we receive bread and wine blessed by the priest in remembrance of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection as he commanded us to do on the night before he died on the cross. At that Last Supper with his disciples, Jesus took bread and wine and said, “This is my Body” and “this is my blood.” “Do this in remembrance of me.” When receive Christ’s Body and Blood, we believe we are united with him and strengthened to serve others in his name. In the Episcopal Church, all baptized Christians are invited to come to the alar rail and receive both the bread and the wine. You may consume the wafer of bread and then drink from the chalice of wine. Or, you may hold onto the bread and dip it in the chalice and then consume it. If you are not baptized yet, or wish to abstain from either the bread or wine, we invite to come forward for a blessing from the priest. To indicate this, simply cross your arms over your chest. Gluten-free wafers are available upon request.
All Are Welcome
For first-time visitors, the Episcopal Church service can be a little confusing. At first it may seem difficult to know which book to use or when to stand, sit, or kneel. We encourage you to go with the flow and not worry about “getting it right.” Please feel free to ask questions of any of our members or our priest. We are happy to help!
If you are interested in baptism, please feel free to contact our priest. We would love to share more with you about this important step in your spiritual life.
